Hell Freezes Over.. (a story of one morning in Bandung)

with 8 comments

Well, it is 7 o’clock in the morning.. I just got back from campus, after spending a night there doing some research. And I tell you about the journey home.. Dang! It was agonizingly cold! the temperature dropped below 20 C (I guess :P ), and in equatorial country such as Indonesia, it IS considered to be cold.

How come? It is none other than because the rain was constantly pouring down all over the night, beginning at about 8pm last night, then it just steadily got heavier until when I got up at about 6am the rain was already over, leaving trails of soil scent and the cold breeze seeping through the window.

I didn’t intentionally want to wake up at 6 actually, in fact at about 5am I reckoned that Roffi woke me up for Shubuh, and after adjusting my eyes to the light, (very) little stretching…
I just fell right back to sleep..  zzzz… haha
Well it wasn’t my fault, at the moment I did the eye-adjusting, I saw all my friends were still sleeping like babies, I was simply caught into the current, hehe..

And so, after doing Shubuh a bit late at 6, I began the long journey home. To be frankly, it is not long, in fact normally it will only take less than 10 minutes from my rent to the campus. The extravagant sense of cold made the journey felt longer and painful, and that time I only wore a friggin’ short pants, not a trousers, for god’s sake I really felt like an idiota.. Well I didn’t think if it was going to rain all night like that.

I wondered, whenever facing situation such as myself (caught in the cold, with all the breeze going over the ‘little brother’, haha..), what is best to do? just go faster to get home early but with the wind blows extremely colder and also increasing chance of an accident, or just go slower so the wind wouldn’t  feel too harsh and therefore increasing the safety of the journey?

Anyway, things did not get better at all, it just worsened.. As I got home to my rent, walked briskly to enter my room (I notice no one is up yet in the other rooms), the air suddenly changes! Oh Good Lord, what is this lovely comforting warmth kind of feeling.. Nice, now let me tell you something about my room. It was built-in with natural air conditioner. Whenever the air is dull and hot, suddenly my room feels cooler, and when the air is freezing, it turns into a sanctum! haha.. So great isn’t it?

Oh and also the bed, it is contagiously flirting, tempting me to go there, lie down and just close my eyes one more time.. But no! I musn’t fall for this temptation! I have  a class at 9, and it will be a take-home-test, so I must attend it no matter what. So here I am, ended up writing this story to stay awake..

Much thanks for the attention guys,
Take care!

NB: from now on, I will be making more posts in English just like this, and I will put it in a category under “English, please”, so I would really love to receive some feedback and support from all of you to write comments also in English and correct me in terms of erroneous usage of verbs, grammar, and vocabulary. Thanks!

  2. Good english, then ! I know, I’m feeling much colder than you here, Fel..please… It was 17 degrees, and I wore my coat and gloves, and everybody laughing at me !!!! Shoot! If they were me, who used to live in Indonesia, they would have done the same things too.. And they also said, “Rachma, you would die in the winter!!” Yeah, probably…

But I miss the weather that you’ve talked about. It used to be the natural weather of Bandung. Because nowadays, we rarely feel it anymore.. So u should be thankful I think,, considering that it is a nice weather actually..
Waiting for more story about my hometown..

Sure, I will keep You informed.
haha, well maybe Indonesian aren’t built to live in cold places afterall.
    Thanks!

  4. someday my friend asked me.. “you turn the air cond on, then you hide under the blanket.. then why you don’t turn the air cond off and sleep without the blanket?, what a waste of energy you did..”

lately i recognized that what we want is warmth, the feeling of being warm..

pesan moral: find a girl to warm you..

That is so me in jakarta! I turn the AC on and then just hide under my blanket, haha.
You absolutely have a point here, warmth is what we all cherish, isn’t it right?

pesan moral: find me a girl please, its getting colder in here, haha..

    thx

  8. well
i used to bath at 1 am and to go to the bathroom, as u know i must fight the cold from my room (near open air) walk downstairs to the bathroom
the most coldest part is when i go back to my room and pass the alley with shivering wind and wet body naked (towel only).

i already used to do this
so i don’t feel the cold anymore
i know how to regulate my body temperature by doing some breathing technique
sometime I’m not only bathe, but also wash my pants (you know lah)

as you know there is no hot water in my house for bathe
